comicculturewarrior asked:

Elliott and Jose take a look at “DOOMWAR” #1 from Marvel Comics. It’s a mini-series from Marvel that costs $3.99 so the guys have GOTTA HATE IT, right? You will be just as surprised as they were after reading this book by John Maberry and Scott Eaton. CHECK OUT THE CCW*TV BLOG! http:comicculturewarrior.wordpress.com

Very interesting. When first I heard of “Doomwar” it was as if my own ideas and fantasy’s were getting real (well, as much as a comicbook story can get real ofcourse…) and I’m very glad to see that it’s a good read. I wonder what may happen to Doom at the end… one big epic defeat would fit best after all these numerous appearences of him lately.

Now I just have to hope I can get these books, they’re hard to get here in Holland *sigh*

anyway, great job Mr. Maberry =)

I was really impressed with this review and find myself wondering why Marvel just can’t ring themselves to market this and any other Black Panther related book effectively.

Nonetheless, I’ve found Mr Marberry to be an incredibly gifted writer as evidenced by most of his novels which I’ve read, so I’m glad that he’s brought his usual excellence to BP’s world.

ive been meaning to comment but ive been busy with work. well, i picked it up after watching this review, i saw it b4 but the cover art and the price drew me away. in the end im glad i picked it up great story and awesome art also had alot of great moments, my fav was when doom was standing outside storm’s cell when the door opened, the look on her face and the menacing feeling i got from doom was just great.

Thanks for watching and commenting, John! We’re looking forward to the next issue and hope that word of mouth does for the book what Marvel’s marketing dept. isn’t. ;)

Thanks for that smart, insightful and funny review. Glad you enjoyed the first issue of DoomWar.

The series isn’t crossing over with any other Marvel books at this point. And, yes, Deadpool and the Fantastic Four are part of the story. The FF show up in issue #3, and Deadpool soon after.

Marvel gave me a lot of creative freedom with this project, and I plotted it the way I do my novels: convoluted, devious, violent and weird. That makes it fun for me to write. Glad it’s fun to read!

  6. stanleyballard Says:

Top notch work on this one….Maberry does indeed bring his A game. Hope that word of mouth helps to spark more interest in this series.

  7. agmaster Says:

Heh, they do seem almost ashamed of it. Insert joke about mutants and minorities here. This is Marvel choking themselves out again. Pushing is limited to Siege and Necrosha, they just can’t market everything they have.

  8. comicculturewarrior Says:

You’re welcome. This is a book that deserves people’s attention.

I don’t read Big Two comics any more, but I really enjoy having you guys keep me up to date on what’s going on.

Thanks! keep up the good work.

    That’s it. Picking this up!

@SMARTASSgr8 “Unspeakable” was not just one of my favorite FF stories, but I think my favorite Doctor Doom story. I love alot of Waid’s Flash stories, so it wasn’t hard for me to get into his FF run. I think I read it on Wiki, but Waid defended his characterization of Doom and I suggest you look it up because he put it more eliquently than I can. But I think the worst thing Byrne did when he wrote FF was making Doom this “honorable villian” because that is the version most fans recall.

  15. SMARTASSgr8 Says:

While this happened years ago, how did you guys feel about Mark Waid turning Doom into Leatherface for his FF run? I loathed that version of Doom. He may not be a good guy, but wearing the skin of a lost love was a little too much for me to buy. I’ve never thought Waid was that good of a writer, but that book pretty much guaranteed I wouldn’t pick up anything of his again(unless there was some overwhelming praise for a certain book; so far there hasn’t been LOL!).

  16. PILKK90 Says:

i only got this book because im a huge Doom fan, but i didnt expect it to be so good. the sales would be higher for this book if they advertise all the people who appear, such as deadpool and the fantastic 4

  17. sai011 Says:

I am good! I’ll pass on this. Marvel has almost killed me with there crap.

  18. tommystewdevine Says:

Unlike you guys I picked this up thinking it would be great, now i didn’t think it was going to go this direction, but i thought is was going to be good. I like Doom, not Doom who helps heroes with some justified reason or Doom who is never Doom but some robot. I fuckin like Doom who is making sue storm cry or trying to expand Latveria to the whole world. And boy i think taking over Wakonda to use that Vibraniumis a great idea. LONG LIVE DR DOOM!

  19. tommystewdevine Says:

    man, i would choose joe.

  20. impatiens Says:

I hate to sound helpless but I can ONLY afford to add one more comic to my list. Its gotta be Joe the Barbarian or Doomwar. I’ve read both and they are worthy contenders. But IDK, in the long run… Both would make good trades I’m sure but DoomWar just seems so epic. Joe The B. seems more mellow down but so touching in a strange subtle way…

  21. deemar325 Says:

The main problem with Black Panther in general is other books and creators ignore BP, it doesn’t count in the greater MU.

  22. deemar325 Says:

Yeah i passed on Doomwar Mayberry hasn’t impressed me on Black Panther

  23. TheMSpot Says:

Every time I post it seems to be venting my nerd rage about comic book sites, but at least your blog and youtube page is not on my shit list. Because you do not pander, you tell it like it is.

  24. Baec Says:

Deadpool is going to be in this series. So is the Fantastic 4.

Jose & Elliot why you guys have not been reading Black Panther is beyond me that series has been excellent.

  25. comicculturewarrior Says:

    If we have time, ya.
